1969 13-COURSE RAYMOND PASSAURO ZUCCARO BAROQUE LUTE

Well-preserved but much-played instrument awaiting restoration.

Unrestored 13-course baroque lute by the Belgian lute maker and sculptor Raymond Passauro Zuccaro from 1969.

Passauro is one of the grandfathers of historical lute making and his lutes are regarded as master instruments. One of them can be seen in the Edinburgh Museum of Instruments.

10-piece back, beautifully carved rosette and peghead decoration. All tuning pegs are present, the instrument is labeled inside. Original case.

This lute has been played a lot, which can be seen especially on the back. But there are no cracks or missing parts. The instrument is playable, but these things should be done:

  • the tuning pegs are movable, but need to be made smooth again with peg soap
  • cosmetic restoration on the surface (abrasions and scratches)
  • it needs new strings

Overall length 101cm, scale length 63cm, scale length of the 10th fret 66cm, scale length of the 11th fret 71.5cm, scale length of the 12th fret 76.2cm, scale length of the 13th fret 81cm. The nut width is 11.3 cm. The body width is 32cm.
