Sebastian Schroeder – musician, author and artist from Northern Germany

Over 25 years ago, I received a parcel from America. Inside was a Vega Regent 5-string banjo from 1923, made in Boston, Massachusetts. It was in rough shape—the neck was warped, and the skin was torn. But something changed that day. I had caught a very special kind of bug.

I restored that banjo, gave it new life, and it gave me something in return—an instrument with a soul. Every note carried its history, its character, its journey.

Since then, that banjo—and many others—have been my companions through highs and lows. They’ve brought comfort, joy, and inspiration when I needed it most.

FineFolkMusic is born from that passion. My hope is to pass on these meaningful moments—whether it’s discovering a new old instrument or learning a new tune. Music, after all, is meant to be shared.
